Servant Leaders . . .
Fr. Marc Rougeau, SDB
Father Ramon was born in the Philippines during the era of the "Beatles" and around the time of JFK's assassination. Sometime after Apollo 11's landing on the moon, he enrolled in the Salesian Minor Seminary, better known as the "Juniorate." Meanwhile, his family migrated to San Francisco. Father Ramon ministered 10 years as a priest in various Salesian parishes in the Philippines before he was transferred to Los Angeles. His last assignment was in San Francisco before he came to Stockton in 2011.
This is the third time I have served at St. Luke Parish. My first assignment was as a seminarian from 1992-93. The second was as an Associate Pastor from 1998 - 2000. St. Luke is still as AWESOME as ever!
I enjoy encountering parishioners, especially as we come together at Mass and Confession. Their genuine and real faith inspires and strengthens mine.
I'm always grateful to God who is calling me to serve Him and His people at St. Luke's!
Father Marc Rougeau has been a priest for more than 40 years and a member of the Salesian Society for more than 50 years. Fr. Marc is the only child of Wilfrid and Laurette Rougeau. The family immigrated from Canada in 1951 to the Los Angeles area seeking better work opportunities. Fr. Marc became acquainted with the Salesians through Don Bosco Technical Institute in Rosemead, California. He spent his freshman year learning a trade in the printing department, then transferred to the Salesian Junior Seminary in Watsonville, California. He entered the novitiate in 1965 and made first vows in 1966. He taught in a Salesian boarding school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, and then began his theological formation in 1974. He was ordained on May 14, 1977, then returned for 8 years to minister at St. Mary's Salesian School in Edmonton. Since then he has been in retreat work, financial administration, and other roles in the Salesian Province of St. Andrew, which comprises California and Texas.
Born in Cúcuta, Colombia, Fr. Marco declared his intention to join the Salesian order in 1992, at the age of 19. Following his ordination in 2003, he first served as the youth minister at the Colegio San Medardo in Neiva: leading student retreats and developing the school’s religious curriculum. Three years later, he assumed the role of provincial delegate for youth ministry for the Bogota province; this responsibility later grew to include vocation ministry for the Salesian family. Between 2009 and 2013, Fr. Marco served as pastor of the Salesian parish, and rector of the Salesian school, in Contratación. During the summer of 2016, he engaged in direct ministry to homeless youth in Medellín.
